Home Checklist

We start with the home since it's the place you invest a large portion of your energy and is typically the best spot to endure a crisis. Which is the reason governments give the standard "remain in your home!" advice during an emergency.

The goal is to stay in your home for in any event 14 days with no outside assistance — regardless of the situation. That implies you can't accept you'll have power, water, cooking or warming gas, correspondence, web, ambulances, etc.

Home Checklist:

  • Water: store 55 Litres of Drinkable water per individual (generally 3.7 Litre per day) and have ways to treat dirty water via either a portable water filter or Water Purifier Systems
  • Food: at least 23,000 calories per individual (roughly 1,500 calories per day) of shelf-stable food that’s ready to eat or only needs boiling water to make, Canned Food, Pasta, Rice, Sugar, Salt, Honey, Oats, Crackers, Granola Bars, dried Fruits, Sweet Hard Candies
  • Fire: lighters, matches, and backup fire starters, LPG Stove, Alcohol Stove, Charcoal (Fire or BBQ Pit), Gasoline
  • Light: headlamps, flashlights, candles, lanterns
  • Heating and cooling: indoor-safe heaters, extra blankets, USB-powered fan
  • Medical: Home medical supplies, First Aid Kits, Medicine Bag (Pills and over the counter prescription drugs), Emergency Medication(Medicine for Fever, Diarrhea)

  • Hygiene: wet wipes, hand sanitiser, soap, Shampoo, Bleach, powdered detergent, disposable plastics (you cant flush the toilet)
     
  • Communication:  Hand crank / solar operated AM/FM Radio, Portable Radio with Batteries

  • Power: spare batteries and rechargers, Solar Panels, Solar Charge Controller, Deep cycle batteries,  Power Inverter (DC to AC), power banks, Rechargeable Batteries, Generators (Gasoline)

  • Tools: axe, shovel, work gloves, zip ties, duct tape, etc. Rope (avoid nylon), Paracord, Whistle

  • Cash: as much as you can reasonably afford to stash (monthly budget for 2 months)

  • Documents: copy of deeds/titles, insurance policies, birth certificates, maps, pictures of family members, etc. in both physical and USB thumb drive forms, ID with Blood Type

  • Local & emergency info: write down important contact numbers, know the location of the nearest hospitals, etc.
  • Mental health: board games, favorite books, headphones, movies downloaded to a tablet, etc
    Miscellaneous
    :  Alcohol (Whiskey, Rum), Cigarette (If you Smoke)

  • *Self defense: depends on personal views, may include body armor, firearms, etc.
*Note: In Philippines, Carrying a fire arm may not be feasible in the city due to the permits and restrictions it carries.
